It is with deep and sincere regret, said Dr. Ian Bond, President of Beacon University, that due to circumstances beyond our control, it has become necessary to begin the process of closing the institution effective at the end of the 2008-2009 academic year.
The University has every intention of honoring its obligations to students who have completed 75% of their program, and we will continue to offer courses so that they will finish their degrees over the next year.
Beacon is no longer able to accept new students. We believe, though, that Beacon University, a Christian interdenominational liberal arts university, is a genuine asset to the community, and it is our hope that we can reach out to leaders in the community to build a consortium which will enable Beacon University to continue its mission.
There are precedents for such action in the past in Columbus. We believe Beacon\'s record justifies such support. BU offers degrees in Leadership Studies, Human Services, Religious Studies and General Studies. Our graduates serve in countries around the world and in local communities around Columbus. Also, in response to Senator Johnny Isakson\'s request, Beacon University worked with the military to train chaplains for the Army, some of whom are now deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
